See DJ Snake, Jeremih, Young Thug in Glitzy ‘The Half’ Video
Swizz Beatz, Jeremih, Young Thug and DJ Snake take turns dancing and mugging for the camera in a brightly lit house of mirrors in the new video for “The Half.” The video channels a Michael Bay movie, as women wear revealing clothing and, at one point, carry what appears to be a lit flare in the bombastic clip.
“The Half” appeared in August on Snake’s debut album, Encore, and savvily cherrypicks from several recent pop trends. The beat lands somewhere between a DJ Mustard production and Major Lazer’s “Lean On” (the latter song co-produced by DJ Snake). Jeremih provides cheerfully self-aggrandizing, hummable verses, as he has on a number of recent hits; Thug is his usual excitable self.
The boldest choice here is the inclusion of Swizz Beatz, who works in a brusque style at odds with Jeremih and Thug’s melodic tendencies. He steals the track with a few rough-hewn interjections and makes an eye-catching spectacle in the video with his bright gold jacket.
“The Half” is one of many feature-stocked songs on Encore, which included 16 guest appearances by 14 different artists. One of these was by Justin Bieber, who contributed vocals to “Let Me Love You.” Released as a single, “Let Me Love You” peaked at No 4 on the Hot 100, matching Snake’s previous best as both a lead artist (“Turn Down For What” with Lil Jon) and a featured artist (Major Lazer’s “Lean On”).
