Read Sean Lennon’s Poignant Tributes to Carrie Fisher, Debbie Reynolds
A grief-stricken Sean Lennon remembered both close friend Carrie Fisher and her mother Debbie Reynolds in a series of Instagram posts on Wednesday. “My heart is completely and permanently broken,” he wrote upon learning of Fisher’s death. When news broke that Reynolds died following a stroke the next day, he posted a photo of the actress along with the caption, “I don’t know what to say right now, I’m truly in shock … this is too much.”
In his eulogy for Fisher, Lennon called her “one of the best and closest friends I’ve ever had in my life” and thanked her profusely for the advice she had given him over the years. “You meant more to me than just friend or family; I feel that you were part of me,” he wrote. “[R]egarding the trials and tribulations of being a son or daughter of celebrities, no one helped or inspired me more than Carrie Fisher,” he continued. “One of my favorite things she used to say is, ‘Resentment is like swallowing poison and expecting the other person to die.'”
Lennon was similarly effusive in a post about Reynolds, whom he described as a “timeless legend” and an important personal influence. “Carrie and Debbie’s relationship was a template for mine and my mother’s,” he noted. “Debbie taught me many things. I literally have no energy left in my body. I feel completely drained of all blood, I feel utterly deflated.”
He finished his post by sending thoughts and prayers to Fisher’s 24-year-old daughter, Billie Lourd. “I love you Carrie and Debbie always,” he added. “Thank you for what was an endless fountain of kindness and generosity from both of you.”
A fan-organized light saber vigil honoring Carrie Fisher was held at Downtown Disney in Anaheim, California.
