See Maggie Rose Sing Hopeful New Song ‘More Dreams Than Dollars’
The annual Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas tends to focus on artificial intelligence and nifty new tech gadgets, but Maggie Rose brought a distinctly human element to the event with her performance at Thiel’s Audio’s booth in partnership with Aurora Nashville. Rose, who’s working on her next album, performed the new song “More Dreams Than Dollars” and linked it to her own experience as a struggling young musician.
“I do not think it could be more autobiographical about myself and a lot of the artists that Aurora supports,” says Rose before the performance. “Dollars come later but the dreams have to come first, for sure. And [that’s what] inspired this song.”
With its laid-back guitar riff, the mid-tempo tune conjures an island vibe while Rose’s soulful, smoky vocals weave a tale of hope, booze, and the act of crashing on friends’ couches. “The only thing we got figured out, is we don’t got it figured out,” she sings, reveling in her lack of funds. It’s hard to argue that this bohemian fantasy isn’t seductive – after all, as she notes, “We got more dirt than diamonds, but damn, if we don’t shine.”
Rose’s EP The Variety Show, Volume One, came out in April 2016. Her next announced performance in February 18th, at Lincoln Square Theatre in Decatur, Illinois.
