Amanda Nunes Eyes UFC History After Victory Over Ronda Rousey
Now that she’s taken down Miesha Tate and Ronda Rousey, Amanda Nunes has big plans.
Next month, the UFC will hold the inaugural female Featherweight Championship bout at UFC 208 when Holly Holm takes on Germaine de Randamie in Brooklyn, New York. For Nunes, it doesn’t necessarily mean much considering she’ll have plenty of opportunities in the coming months to defend her bantamweight title. However, once she’s taken some time to enjoy her accomplishments in 2016, she’s tempted to make the jump up to featherweight for a shot at holding two title belts at the same time.
You know, sort of like what Conor McGregor just did.
“Honestly, I want to take a little time, enjoy it a little bit, but I really look forward to this 145-pound belt,” Nunes told TMZ Sports. “Maybe I’ll go up to fight for the 145-pound belt. We’ll see. Maybe I’m going to have two belts like Conor McGregor.”
It helps that Nunes already defeated de Randamie by TKO in 2013. Also, Holm became the first UFC fighter to defeat Rousey at UFC 193 before losing consecutive fights to Tate – who Nunes beat in just over three minutes at UFC 200 – and Valentina Shevchenko. If she were to win the featherweight belt while holding the bantamweight belt, Nunes would join McGregor as the only fighters in UFC history to hold two titles simultaneously.
