See Alison Krauss, Jamey Johnson Sing With Rufus Wainwright in Nashville
Jamey Johnson and Alison Krauss joined Rufus and Martha Wainwright at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium on December 18th for a stirring performance of “Go Tell It on the Mountain.” (Watch the performance above.)
The collaboration was part of Noel Nights, an annual holiday show hosted by the sibling musicians, featuring family members Loudon Wainwright III, Sloan Wainwright, Lucy Wainwright Roche, Anna McGarrigle and Jane McGarrigle. The family first hosted the show in New York City in 2005 under the guidance of Rufus and Martha’s mother Kate McGarrigle, a renowned folk singer who passed away from sarcoma in 2010. Since its founding, the concert has also taken place in Los Angeles, San Francisco and Montreal.
Other visiting musicians for the two-night stint at the Ryman included Karen Elson (“Ring the Bells for Jim”), Kennedy Rose (“O Come Emmanuel”), and Emmylou Harris, who has been part of the event since its inception and helped build the house band for this year’s Nashville performance.
Johnson and Krauss were surprise guests at the Noel Nights show. Johnson recently co-wrote the song “Kicked Outta Country” with George Strait for the country legend’s new compilation Strait Out of the Box: Part 2, while Krauss will release her latest album Windy City on February 17th.
