Watch A Tribe Called Quest, Busta Rhymes Bring ‘Dis Generation’ to ‘Kimmel’
A Tribe Called Quest visited Jimmy Kimmel Live Friday to deliver “Dis Generation” and “We the People…” with Busta Rhymes, a pair of tracks off the hip-hop group’s We Got It From Here… Thanks 4 for Your Service. Watch the performance for “Dis Generation” in the above video.
During the abbreviated performance, every time a Phife Dawg verse came on, the three rappers onstage would dip their heads and point up to the sky to remember their late cohort.
The Kimmel concert, which also featured “Mobius” and “Award Tour” off-air, marked the second time A Tribe Called Quest have performed live together following the March 2016 death of Phife Dawg; following the release of their new album, ATCQ played Saturday Night Live.
Q-Tip previously stated that the group would embark on a final world tour.
As A Tribe Called Quest revealed during their We Got It From Here… release party, it was another late night performance – their November 2015 reunion on The Tonight Show – that served as a catalyst for their surprise new album.
“We just started to talk about how the [new] album needed to happen officially,” Busta remembered. “That was the first time that Q-Tip said, ‘Alright, I’m with it.’ I thought he was bullshitting. I didn’t think it was really gonna happen. I thought he was just in the moment, the whole anniversary celebration. The next day, he still said he was with it. Then I really knew: This shit is gonna pop.”
