Inside Sam Hunt’s Apologetic ‘Drinkin’ Too Much’: The Ram Report
Sam Hunt‘s new song “Drinkin’ Too Much” is seemingly directed not at a mass audience, but at one specific listener: the singer’s on-again/off-again girlfriend, Hannah Lee Fowler. A vulnerable apology for the roller-coaster ride that was Hunt’s rise to fame, the piano ballad was surprise released on New Year’s Eve and finds Hunt asking for another chance.
Apparently, it did its job. The couple confirmed their engagement shortly after the song’s appearance. Of course, it’s possible Hunt and Fowler were engaged prior and the release of “Drinkin’ Too Much” was simply well-timed. Either way, it’s the perfect capper to a story that shed a little light into Hunt’s normally private personal life.
“I’m sorry I named the album Montevallo. I’m sorry people know your name now, and strangers hit you up on social media,” says Hunt in the spoken-word lyrics. “I know you want your privacy and you got nothing to say to me, but I wish you’d let me pay off your student loans with these songs you gave me.”
While “Drinkin’ Too Much” is the first taste of Hunt’s next album, no further information has been released about the project. A wedding date for the couple has yet to be announced.
