Watch Robyn, Metronomy’s Blazing Breakup Video ‘Hang Me Out to Dry’
Robyn and Metronomy soundtrack a woman’s attempt to (literally) burn the memory of her ex in the new video for “Hang Me Out to Dry.”
Directed by the Montreal and Paris-based film collective Dent de Cuir, the “Hang Me Out to Dry” clip has a distinct early Eighties vibe. It opens with the heroine smoking a cigarette against her car as memories of her last relationship play out in the reflection of the car’s windows.
“Hang Me Out to Dry” moves deftly between the rubbery pulse of Robyn‘s verses and Metronomy singer Joseph Mount’s wistful ones. The woman in the video finds herself watching her ex and his new flame in the car’s rearview mirror. She drives the car to a dump where she bashes out the windows – with her ex’s image still in them – and sets fire to the vehicle.
“Hang Me Out to Dry” appears on Metronomy’s latest album, Summer 08, which arrived in July. Robyn’s last release was the 2015 mini-album Love Is Free by La Bagatelle Magique, her group with keyboardist Markus Jägerstedt and the late producer Christian Falk. More recently, the Swedish pop singer has been unveiling other artists’ remixes of songs from throughout her repertoire.
