Watch Yasiin Bey Bring Slick Rick, Pharoahe Monch Onstage at Farewell Show
Yasiin Bey, the rapper formerly known as Mos Def, brought Slick Rick and Pharoahe Monch to the stage during his first farewell show at the Apollo Theater in New York on Wednesday evening.
Both cameos can be seen in a 50-minute fan-shot video, with Monch taking the stage first around the 21:15 mark to perform “Oh No,” a 2000 single that also featured Nate Dogg and appeared on the Rawkus Records compilation Lyricist Lounge 2. Monch then tore through his own seminal cut, “Simon Says,” while Bey acted as his hype man. Around the 31:45 mark, Slick Rick joined Bey on stage to perform “Auditorium,” their collaboration from the latter’s 2009 album, The Ecstatic.
This week, Bey and producer Ferrari Shepard released their self-titled debut, December 99th, after missing their scheduled December 9th release date. The album is available to stream on Tidal. After New York, Bey will go to Washington D.C. and end his performing career with a three night stand at the Kennedy Center Concert Hall, December 31st through January 2nd.
