See Sheryl Crow, Vince Gill Honor Emmylou Harris With ‘Bottles of Wine’
Sheryl Crow and Vince Gill are among the artists paying tribute to Emmylou Harris on The Life & Songs of Emmylou Harris: An All-Star Concert Celebration. Filmed early last year in Washington, D.C., the concert hit shelves this November as a two-disc CD/DVD package, mixing performances from those who have followed in Harris’ path – including folk duos, Americana A-listers, country crooners, bluegrass bands and former emo poster children – with a few songs by the honorary Harris herself.
Backed by songwriter Buddy Miller, bassist Don Was, Nickel Creek’s Sara Watkins and other members of the best house band this side of the yearly Americana Honors & Awards ceremony, Crow and Gill team up in the video above for a tag-teamed version of “Two More Bottles of Wine.”
Written by Delbert McClinton and originally released as the first single from Harris’ Quarter Moon in a Ten Cent Town, “Two More Bottles of Wine” topped the country charts in 1978, knocking Willie Nelson’s Grammy-winning version of “Georgia on My Mind” out of the top slot. Crow and company resurrect the track with a loose, lively performance, with Crow playfully slurring her way through the chorus – it’s a drinking song, after all – and Gill chiming in with honky-tonk harmonies and Telecaster twang.
