Bon Iver, Shins, Ryan Adams to Perform on ‘A Prairie Home Companion’
Bon Iver, the Shins, Ryan Adams and Regina Spektor will perform on long-running live variety show A Prairie Home Companion in 2017.
The program will host concert broadcasts with the Shins and Spektor in Seattle (January 7th), Bon Iver‘s Justin Vernon and comedian Beth Stelling in Chicago (January 14th) and Ryan Adams in Pasadena, California (January 21st), Spin reports.
Singer-songwriter/mandolin virtuoso Chris Thile (Nickel Creek, Punch Brothers) took over Prairie hosting duties on October 15th, replacing longtime leader Garrison Keillor. The musician recruited an eclectic array of live performers over the past two months, including Jack White, Esperanza Spalding, Trey Anastasio, Ben Folds and Jason Isbell.
“I want the show to be a home for the breadth of the good music being made in the world,” Thile told Rolling Stone. “My musical output has been consistently acoustic, but my taste has not. I love everything. As long as it’s good, I’m in. If you’re sitting there going, ‘Well, these particular genres are the only genres I like,’ that’s like saying, ‘I only like books with this particular kind of cover.’ Because that’s all genre is. It’s a discussion of texture. In my mind, there’s this one ‘super genre,’ which is the only genre that matters, and that’s the super genre of good music.”
