See Maren Morris Perform Two Tracks on Steamy ‘SNL’ Debut
Fresh off earning four Grammy nominations, Maren Morris made her Saturday Night Live debut on the December 10th episode, performing two of her biggest hits off her debut album Hero. WWE star John Cena was the show’s host.
Morris first took the stage to perform a soulful rendition of “My Church,” strumming a white acoustic guitar beneath a blue spotlight before the rest of her band was revealed in front of a backdrop of sparkling Christmas lights.
The CMA New Artist of the Year winner – who will compete in the Grammy Awards’ all-genre Best New Artist race in February – returned to the stage later in the show for a confident, knockout performance of “’80s Mercedes.” Ditching the guitar in favor of a gold microphone, Morris strutted and danced around the stage, showing off her sultry lower register in the verses before hitting some serious high notes in the song’s sing-along chorus.
Last Tuesday, Morris tweeted, “Between the Grammy nominations and playing @nbcsnl this Saturday, I might pass out. I hope @JohnCena gives me a hug.” Following last night’s performance she returned to Twitter to share a photo with Bryan Cranston, who appeared on the episode as his infamous Breaking Bad character Walter White.
Morris will kick off her headlining Hero Tour in February.
