Dolly Parton Sings With Miley Cyrus, Readies New Christmas Movie
Dolly Parton premieres her new TV-movie Christmas of Many Colors: Circle of Love tonight on NBC. Based loosely on Parton’s life in East Tennessee, the film stars Jennifer Nettles and Ricky Schroder, who portrayed Parton’s parents in last year’s Coat of Many Colors film, and features a guest role by Parton herself.
To promote the movie, Parton performed on last night’s installment of The Voice, singing with her goddaughter Miley Cyrus and vocal group Pentatonix. Together, they reinterpreted her classic cautionary tale “Jolene.” Parton also teamed up with Nettles for “Circle of Love,” the centerpiece song of Christmas of Many Colors.
It’s been a roller-coaster week for Parton. As wildfires raged in and around Gatlinburg, Tennessee, the entertainer’s signature theme park Dollywood was threatened by the flames. Parton released a statement about the tragedy in her home state. “I have been watching the terrible fires in the Great Smoky Mountains and I am heartbroken. I am praying for all the families affected by the fire and the firefighters who are working so hard to keep everyone safe,” it read in part.
Parton will return to the road this evening on her Pure & Simple Tour, performing a concert in New Orleans. Christmas of Many Colors: Circle of Life airs tonight at 9:00 p.m./ET on NBC.
