Watch Grandaddy’s Ghostly Video for Space-Rock Ballad ‘A Lost Machine’
Modesto, California band Grandaddy released the video for new single, “A Lost Machine.” The space-rock ballad weaves synths with piano as Jason Lytle transports the listener to a solemn scene, like seeking “temporary shelter at the roller rink.”
Lytle says the ethereal track is a significant part of Last Place, Grandaddy’s first album in a decade. “Every now and then I luck out and get a pretty good idea of what a song wants to be before I dig in and start working on it,” he said. “This was one of those songs. I had all kinds imagery and feelings in mind to guide me through the tracking and producing process. When this song started taking shape, it was the point where I knew I was working on a new Grandaddy album.”
“Machine” follows two other singles, “Way We Won’t” and “Clear Your History,” which came out in September. The former track’s surreal video stars Jason Ritter as a mirage-seeking hitchhiker. Last Place – the quartet’s fifth album – will be released March 3rd via Brian “Danger Mouse” Burton’s 30th Century Records.
Grandaddy announced their first American concert behind the new LP, scheduled for February 28th at New York City’s Le Poisson Rouge. The band has U.K. and European dates booked throughout March and April, along with a newly announced slot at Barcelona’s summer festival Primavera Sound.
