Watch Granger Smith Retrace His Roots in Affecting ‘Tractor’ Video
The influence of Granger Smith‘s father looms large over his 2016 album Remington, and in particular the song “Tractor” was a way for the “Backroad Song” performer to come to terms with his death. The newly released video for tractor continues this tradition, boasting shots from the ranch where Smith’s father lived and the aging tractor he used to take care of the place.
Directed by Paul De La Cerda, the clip includes some gorgeous, sweeping shots of the family’s Texas ranch, while a silver-haired gentleman pilots a tractor across the terrain. In the song, Smith laments missing out on opportunities to learn from his dad when he was younger, discovering that he actually enjoys the view and slowing of time offered by the tractor seat. Smith makes an appearance later in the video, accompanied by his own son.
“Making this video was very special to me,” Smith posted on Facebook. “The man isn’t an actor, it’s my dad’s lifelong best friend. This isn’t a music video set, it’s dad’s barn, dad’s field, dad’s tractor. I still miss him every day.”
Smith is currently home in Texas recovering from injuries he sustained in a nasty fall from stage in Sayreville, New Jersey. His remaining dates for 2016 have been canceled.
