See Michael Moore Beg Trump to Stop Tweeting, Attend Security Briefings
Michael Moore made an impassioned plea to Donald Trump to attend the daily national security briefings offered to him as president-elect during an interview on Late Night With Seth Meyers Wednesday.
As Moore noted, Trump has only attended three meetings, but has spent plenty of time tweeting about Saturday Night Live and other frivolous topics. The documentarian illustrated the dangers of this by bringing up George W. Bush’s unengaged response to a memo he received one month before 9/11 regarding Osama Bin Laden’s plans to attack the United States with airplanes.
Moore then spoke directly to Trump, saying: “On our behalf, you have to pay attention. You have to attend these briefings. This is our country, this is our security, this is our safety – you’re horsing around with all this nonsense. And you’re not doing your number one job, and the number one job of the president is to make sure that the country is safe.”
During another portion of the interview, Moore spoke about his unfortunately accurate prediction this summer that Trump would win the presidency by flipping the Rust Belt states Michigan, Ohio, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania. Having won what he called “the negative lotto,” Moore decided to make another prediction, noting both Hillary Clinton’s still-growing lead in the popular vote and Alexander Hamilton’s creation of a stopgap between the election and inauguration.
“He’s not President of the United States yet,” Moore said of Trump. “He’s not president until noon on January 20th of 2017. That is more than six weeks away. Would you not agree, regardless of what side of the political fence you’re on, this has been the craziest election year. Nothing anybody has predicted has happened – the opposite has happened! So is it possible, just possible that in these next six weeks something else might happen?”
