See Keith Urban, Carrie Underwood’s Live Debut of ‘The Fighter’
Keith Urban, who currently lives in Nashville with wife Nicole Kidman and was raised in Australia, was born in New Zealand’s northernmost city, Whangarei. And although he began his musical career at a young age, the 49-year-old had never performed on New Zealand soil until last week.
Urban took his Ripcord World Tour to the capital city of Wellington on Saturday, where the early summer weather wasn’t the only thing heating up the crowd. In addition to a duet on “We Were Us,” with New Zealander Kaylee Bell standing in for Miranda Lambert, the Grammy-nominated Urban delighted the crowd with an appearance from Carrie Underwood, who is also making the trek Down Under, and marking her first New Zealand appearance as well. To celebrate the occasion, the two gave the first-ever live performance of “The Fighter,” their feisty duet from Urban’s Ripcord LP.
Dozens of emergency first-responders were special guests at the Wellington concert, with Urban donating tickets after learning of their efforts in the wake of the November 14th earthquake in Kaikoura on the east coast of the South Island of New Zealand.
After New Zealand, the pair took the tour to Australia where they stopped in Adelaide Tuesday night. The tour continues through December 17th, with upcoming stops in Melbourne, Canberra, Sydney and Brisbane.
