Beyonce, Dixie Chicks Unveil Post-CMA ‘Daddy Lessons’ Studio Version
Beyoncé and the Dixie Chicks performed “Daddy Lessons,” the country song from the pop star’s album Lemonade at Wednesday night’s CMA Awards. Now an official collaborative version is available for free download on SoundCloud.
The new rendition features extra riffing from the Dixie Chicks – pointillist embellishments and slashing riffs – plus the group’s impressive harmonies and some lead vocals by Natalie Maines. Around the five minute mark, things take a sudden turn. The Dixie Chicks weave in snippets of their 2002 hit “Long Time Gone,” reworked with playfully grandiose production.
The Dixie Chicks have been performing a countrified version of Beyonce’s “Daddy Issues” since the song was released earlier this year. The trio performed the song a number of times during their recent DCX MMXVI tour, which kicked off in the U.S. in June. During a show in New York, Maines also wore a t-shirt featuring an image of Beyoncé from the singer’s “Formation” video.
According to Billboard, rumors that Beyoncé and the Dixie Chicks would perform “Daddy Lessons” at the CMAs promptly rocketed the track to No. 1 on the Twitter Trending 140 chart Wednesday morning at 11 a.m. It stayed in that position for roughly nine hours.
