Watch Marilyn Manson’s Brutal, Trump-Inspired ‘Say10’ Video
Marilyn Manson leaves a Trump-like body bloody and headless in the jarring new short video for “Say10,” the title track off his upcoming LP.
The short clip was directed by Tyler Shields and finds Manson on a throne, meditating and tearing up a Bible as the sparse production and hushed vocals of “Say10” loom overhead. As the song churns towards its peak, Manson tosses the good book to the side and a striking montage ends with a shot of a decapitated man in a red power tie lying in his own blood. “You say God/ And I say Satan,” Manson bellows.
Despite the imagery and the clip’s release on the eve of the 2016 election, Manson told The Daily Beast it is open to interpretation. “It’s about the desperate acts of people who believe something that is preached by an unbeliever,” he said, adding: “Right now we’re in such a state of confusion when it comes to religion, politics, sexuality, and how they all tie together, and it’s being turned into a circus and a sideshow – and that’s something that I’ve been described as a ringleader of. It seems like a time for me as an artist, and as an American artist, to make something that causes a new set of questions to arise that aren’t simply statements.”
Manson plans to release Say10 next February. The LP follows his 2015 effort The Pale Emperor and finds Manson working with composer Tyler Bates.
