Hear Run the Jewels’ New Post-Election Song ‘2100’ With Boots
Run the Jewels have released the new song “2100” featuring Boots, who also appeared on Run the Jewels 2. The duo unveiled the tune in response to last night’s shocking election results. Though Killer Mike and El-P penned it months’ prior, the sentiment seems prescient for these unsettling times.
“For our friends, for our family. For everyone who is hurting or scared right now. Here is a song we wrote months ago,” Run the Jewels wrote in a statement. “We weren’t planning on releasing it yet, but … well it feels right, now.
“It’s about fear and it’s about love and it’s about wanting more for all of us,” they continued. “It’s called ‘2100.’ We hope it finds you well.”
The politically charged track opens somberly with a resonating organ melody, before Killer Mike raps, “How long before the hate that we hold lead us to another Holocaust?” He questions and later adds, “Say the revolution’s right here/ Right now and they ain’t calling off.”
The song was produced by El-P with co-production from Little Shalimar and Wilder Zoby.
Earlier in the day, Killer Mike appeared on the talk show The Real, to discuss what he believed led to Trump being elected. Run the Jewels are slated to release Run the Jewels 3 by early next year, in conjunction with a tour. They also recently debuted the RTJ3 song “Talk to Me.“
