See Zac Brown Band Perform Early Rarity ‘On This Train’
In October, Zac Brown Band staged their annual Zamily Reunion in Fayetteville, Georgia, turning in a performance of the rarely played 2005 track “On This Train.”
“These wheels keep on taking me the long way / and I just don’t know when they’ll finally stop,” Brown sings as he and the band perform the song, off the independently released Home Grown, with trademark layered vocal harmonies. The video (watch it above) recalls the group’s earliest day as a roots outfit, stripping down to an acoustic arrangement and employing only light percussion.
At this year’s Zamily Reunion, Zac Brown Band treated fan-club members and diehards to a set of rarities and covers, including renditions of Billy Joel’s “Piano Man,” Metallica’s “Enter Sandman” and Ray Lamontagne’s “Jolene.”
For a band that stretched the boundaries of country music with their most recent release, last year’s chart-topping, genre-defying Jekyll + Hyde, the performance of “On This Train” serves as a reminder of the group’s reverence for traditional country music.
“I do have an incredible love and consideration for what I would call old country music,” Brown told Rolling Stone last year. “I grew up on Hank Williams Sr., Willie Nelson and Dolly Parton.”
Zac Brown Band will be touring Australia in 2017 and will return to Charleston, South Carolina, in May for their annual Southern Ground Festival.
