Watch Stephen Colbert Mock Final Donald Trump, Hillary Clinton Debate
Stephen Colbert gave his take on the last Presidential debate during an extended live monologue on The Late Show on Wednesday. He rebuked Donald Trump for refusing to say whether he would accept the results of the upcoming election. “Democracy’s gonna end with a cliffhanger,” Colbert joked. “I guess we’re all gonna have to wait until November 9th to find out if we still have a country – if Donald Trump is in the mood for a peaceful transfer of power, or if he’s just gonna wipe his fat ass with the Constitution.”
The Late Show-host repeatedly mocked the purpose of this debate. “This was Trump’s last chance to make an impression on undecided voters, people who haven’t heard about him in the last 16 months,” Colbert said, leaving “forest-dwelling hermits and crab fisherman who have been swept out to sea.”
Colbert’s jabs at Trump were relentless. He hit on some of the candidate’s biggest campaign blunders, from his personal finances (“I was surprised Trump decided to debate in Vegas, especially at the University of Nevada, because he hasn’t had a lot of luck with casinos or universities”) to sexual assault allegations (“Throughout the debate, Trump found time to tweet repeatedly, which is pretty surprising, but at least we know where his hands were”).
One of Colbert’s sharpest moments was pulling out a pair of Emmy’s to mock Trump’s odd debate assertion that his former television show The Apprentice should have won an award. “You really should get one, Donald,” Colbert said as he kissed his Emmy’s. “They’re fantastic.” “Trump lost to The Amazing Race,” he continued. “This year, it could go to the amazing racist.”
To bring his monologue to a close, Colbert borrowed a line from the debate moderator, Chris Wallace, and used it to describe Trump’s entire candidacy: “Hold up, folks. This doesn’t do any good for anyone.”
