Stephen Colbert to Host Live Election Night Special on Showtime
Late Show host Stephen Colbert will air a live Election Night special – Stephen Colbert‘s Live Election Night Democracy’s Series Finale: Who’s Going To Clean Up This Sh*t? – November 8th on Showtime. “It’ll be all the political comedy you love from my CBS show, with all the swearing and nudity you love from Showtime,” Colbert said in a statement.
Filmed at the Ed Sullivan Theater and scheduled for 11 p.m. EST, 35 minutes before Colbert’s usual time slot, the hour-long special will include Colbert delivering live election updates as the state-by-state results roll in.
Remote segments and several surprise guests are also planned, with the episode concluding – hopefully – with the announcement of the new President of the United States.
As the announcement for the Election Night special points out, the one-time shift to Showtime allows Colbert “to do things he’s never been able to do in this campaign, such as directly quote a candidate without being bleeped.” (Or go on an expletive-filled rant pending the results of the election.)

While Colbert’s Late Show has filmed live episodes – including during the Republican and Democratic national conventions – this marks the first time in TV history that a network late-night show has teamed with a cable network for a live special.
Colbert will get a jump on the Election Night special Monday when Colbert (as his alter ego “Randy”) interviews President Barack Obama on The Late Show.
