See Warren Beatty’s Quirky Final ‘Rules Don’t Apply’ Trailer
“Howard, I’m finding it very, very difficult to run your entire operation when I’ve never, ever actually seen you,” Alec Baldwin’s character tells Warren Beatty’s character Howard Hughes over the phone in the opening of the final trailer for Rules Don’t Apply. It sets the tone for the new clip, where Hughes’ elusive nature is a recurring theme.
The Beatty-produced, written, directed and starring film focuses on obsessive-compulsive eccentric billionaire Hughes, whose affections include banana nut ice cream and Marla Mabrey (portrayed by Lilly Collins), a budding actress who is under contract with him. Mabrey remarks on it being OK that she didn’t meet Hughes right away. Others in the video are fooled by the body doubles Hughes hires. His dubious proclivities for other young actresses are also displayed.
The historical fiction and rom-com film’s dramatic turns in the clip come by way of Mabrey and driver, Frank Forbes (portrayed by Alden Ehrenreich), who begin to fall for each other. Hughes reveals he has a strict policy that his employees do not fraternize romantically. The tension builds as Hughes flies a plane accompanied by Forbes and while in the air Hughes says, “This is Frank’s first plane ride, I want to make it memorable.” Hughes’ idea of doing so involves turning off the engines.
The all-star cast also includes Matthew Broderick, Haley Bennett, Annette Bening, Martin Sheen, Steve Coogan, Ed Harris, Candice Bergen and Oliver Platt.
Rules Don’t Apply is Beatty’s first movie since 1998’s Bulworth. The film premieres in theaters on November 23rd.
