Hear Brandy Clark and Dwight Yoakam’s Stunning New ‘Hold My Hand’
Brandy Clark and Dwight Yoakam performed “Hold My Hand” as a duet at the Grammy Awards in February 2015 and now the singers have released a gorgeous studio version for download and streaming.
The poignancy of the track – about a woman needing reassurance as she and her lover run into her lover’s ex – is highlighted by Clark’s aching vulnerability and Yoakam’s subtle harmonies. The song, penned by Clark and Mark Stephen Jones, originally appeared on Clark’s 2013 breakthrough album 12 Stories with subtle harmonies by Vince Gill. She and Yoakam went into the studio after their magical Grammy performance to record a new version that, incredibly, sat unreleased until now. Hear it below.
“Dwight added something so special to ‘Hold My Hand’ both at the Grammy performance and then on the track itself,” said Clark in a statement. “We had both forgotten about it until we had a show together. In catching up backstage one night we came up with the idea to put it out – for no other reason than we both loved it so much and thought it was a shame to just be ‘sitting on a shelf.’ Music is made to be heard and we definitely wanted this version to be shared.”
Clark is on tour through November 13th behind her current album Big Day in a Small Town, while Yoakam is promoting his new bluegrass set Swimmin’ Pools, Movie Stars.
