See Muse Conjure the Cramps for ‘New Kind of Kick’ Cover
Muse get into the Halloween spirit, dress up in leather and cover the Cramps with their surprise new video for “New Kind of Kick.”
Singer Matt Bellamy sneers and gesticulates like the late Lux Interior on the cover, a heavy take on the Bad Music for Bad People track.
The video features the leather-donning rockers blasting out the Cramps song in a darkened room while horror movie footage plays on the screen behind them. An Elvira lookalike also writhes around, adding to the Halloween vibe of the video.
“New Kind of Kick” arrives just three days after Muse revealed their 360-degree music video for “Revolt,” a cut off the trio’s 2015 LP Drones. Bellamy and company also covered Prince’s “Sign O’ the Times” following the singer’s April death.
Speaking to Rolling Stone last year, Bellamy discussed being in a band that can play stadiums without any mainstream hits. “I’m sort of happy to not have had to rely on the mainstream methods to reach people,” he said. “I think when you rely on those too much, you lose a bit of your independence. You have to play certain games and you have to start worrying about things like commerciality.”
