Watch Stevie Wonder Sing ‘Happy Birthday’ to Hillary Clinton
Hillary Clinton celebrated her 69th birthday Wednesday morning by sitting down with The Breakfast Club, who surprised the Democratic nominee with special guest Stevie Wonder. In addition to Wonder’s vote, the singer also gifted Clinton with a rendition of his Hotter Than July track “Happy Birthday.”
Wonder showed up to The Breakfast Club wearing a jacket with the words “1st Woman President.” “I wanted to wear what I believe,” Wonder said.
“I’m really excited to be here and excited to support someone I have had such love and respect for for years. Truth be told, I think we as men have had our chance to work it out. It’s time to let a woman do it.”
Wonder later joked that when his one-year-old daughter grows up, she is someday going to vote for Chelsea Clinton for president. Ever the politician, Clinton then inquired how many children Wonder has, and more importantly, how many are old enough to vote.
The Breakfast Club asked Wonder why he was supporting Clinton. “When she talks about the things that she’s done for far longer than just the 30 years that she talks about – I think since she had in her spirit what she received from her father, from her parents, lessons she learned – to understand that we have to be respectful for one another, that we have to have pride and not just one people, but all people,” Wonder said.
“We have to truly become a united people of the United States of America, and divisiveness cannot make that happen. Disrespecting one’s ethnicity or their religious preference… we can’t live in a place of fear. Fear is what puts dreams to sleep.”
Elsewhere in the interview, Clinton talked about the Chicago Cubs making the World Series, the Saturday Night Live spoofs, her health and that meme that showed Clinton stole her debate wardrobe from Death Row Records.
