Hear David Bowie’s Mournful New Song ‘No Plan’
David Bowie‘s slow-burning “No Plan,” one of three previously unreleased final studio recordings, debuted on BBC Radio 2 Tuesday. The song is available to stream around the 46-minute mark of the program.
Written for his musical Lazarus, Bowie’s wistful belt and the striving vocal melodies of “No Plan” give the song a theatrical feel that reaches a heavenly peak before giving way to an elegiac saxophone solo. Still, “No Plan” retains a classic Bowie feel, with shuffling drums, dreamy guitar lines and puffs of frail, quivering synths.
“No Plan” marks the second new Bowie track to arrive today, October 18th, following, “When I Met You,” which also premiered on the BBC. Both songs are set to appear on disc two of the upcoming Lazarus Cast Album, along with another previously unreleased Bowie track, “Killing Time” and “Lazarus,” which appeared on the musician’s final album, Blackstar.
While Bowie wrote all three songs for Lazarus, he also recorded them with longtime producer Tony Visconti and the same band that worked on Blackstar. Bowie released Blackstar in January, just days before his death. The Lazarus Cast Album will be released as a 2-CD or 3-LP set on October 21st.
