Watch Green Day Bash Donald Trump During New Jersey Concert
During Green Day‘s concert at Starland Ballroom in New Jersey on Wednesday night, Billie Joe Armstrong had some choice words for Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, sarcastically calling him “New York’s finest” during the concert.
While performing their rollicking “Holiday,” a song that rails against U.S. political conservatism from 2004’s still resonant American Idiot, Armstrong directed the venue to turn out the lights and the band extended the song as Armstrong spoke.
“You guys been watching the news lately? What do you think of our candidates for the presidency of the United States of America?” he inquired to boos from the crowd. “What do you think of ‘New York’s finest,’ Mr. Donald Trump?” which was met with equally negative responses from the audience.
“No racism, no racism, no racism in this fucking room, I’ll tell you that right now,” he said, which garnered fans’ cheers. “There is no white supremacy in this fucking room right now. We are coming together, tonight here in New Jersey, to call bullshit on all the fucking politicians.”
As the band continued the song, Armstrong changed the song’s lyrics from “Pulverize the Eiffel Tower” to “Pulverize the Trump Towers.”
According to Billboard, Trump was not the only Republican to receive a verbal takedown. Armstrong referred to New Jersey Governor Chris Christie as the “enemy” during their performance of “Know Your Enemy.”
Green Day are in the midst of a North American intimate club tour that wraps next month in California before it resumes next year for European dates that kick off on January 10th in Turin, Italy. Their 12th studio album, Revolution Radio, will be released on October 7th.
