See Margo Price Join Emmylou Harris for Fiery ‘Two More Bottles of Wine’
When Emmylou Harris topped the country chart in the summer of 1978 with “Two More Bottles of Wine,” Margo Price was still five years away from making her debut on the planet, where she was destined to become one of the most engaging songwriters and performers in country music today. Inspired as she has been by Harris, Loretta Lynn and Tammy Wynette, Price has transcended gender with her music — just as Harris did — and parts of her life story (mostly the scary, law-breaking parts) are just as pure Merle Haggard or David Allan Coe as anything else.
On Monday night, Harris and Price combined forces during the latest live-streamed episode of Skyville Live, for a spirited version of the Delbert McClinton tune from Harris’s classic Quarter Moon in a Ten Cent Town LP, with Price drawing plenty of vocal inspiration from Harris’s original version. Having performed the song live for nearly 40 years, Harris has found a wiser take on it, but both singers still manage to express the tune’s desperate-for-success sentiment.
Monday’s Skyville Live also featured Steve Earle, Buddy Miller, Brothers Osborne and Canadian singer-songwriter Colter Wall. The episode served as a benefit for – and sneak preview of – the Lampedusa: Concerts for Refugees tour this fall. The tour, which benefits Jesuit Refugee Service’s Global Education Initiative, will feature Harris, Earle and Miller, along with Patty Griffin and the Milk Carton Kids. The trek kicks off October 6th in Boulder, Colorado, and visits 11 cities, wrapping up October 21st in Washington, D.C.
