Watch John Oliver Compare Donald Trump to ‘Disgusting’ Raisin Cookies
John Oliver discussed the major lack of trust Americans have in this election’s major party presidential candidates Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump on Sunday’s Last Week Tonight. The host recognized that both sides have been fraught by scandal. But, Oliver said, the choice between Hillary Clinton and Donald “America’s wealthiest hemorrhoid” Trump is clear.
“Not being as bad as Donald Trump is a low bar to clear,” Oliver said before diving into the Clinton Foundation and email server scandals. Oliver echoed the FBI’s ruling on the email server scandal, which noted that while Clinton and her staff were “extremely careless,” the Bureau did not find a case that would support bringing criminal charges.
“We’ve spent several frustrating weeks trawling through all the innuendo and exaggerations surrounding her email and foundation scandals, and the worst thing you can say is they both look bad, but the harder you look, the less you actually find,” Oliver said. “There’s not nothing there, but what is there is irritating rather than grossly nefarious.”
Turning to Trump, Oliver touched on the GOP candidate’s scandals involving Trump University and his charity’s bizarre use of funds. “Think of it like this: Ethical failings in a politician are like raisins in a cookie … They shouldn’t be there. They disgust people. But most politicians have at least a few raisins.
“Hillary … arguably has more raisins than average. There’s probably 10 of these little fuckers in there … But [Trump] is a fucking raisin monsoon,” Oliver said, triggering an avalanche of raisins on his desk. “He is ethically compromised to an almost unprecedented degree. So if you don’t like raisins, I get it – they’re disgusting. But unfortunately, this November, you’re gonna have to swallow 10 or we’re all going to be eating this shit for years.”
