Hear Mike D’s Bass-Heavy Remix of Warpaint’s ‘New Song’
Beastie Boys‘ Mike D takes Warpaint‘s “New Song” from the disco to the dancehall with a bass-heavy, dubbed-out remix of the Heads Up hit.
For his remix, Mike D strips off the single’s pop glean and focuses on the quartet’s mesmerizing melodies and Jenny Lee Lindberg’s speaker-ratting bass.
Following the dissolution of Beastie Boys after the death of Adam “MCA” Yauch, Mike D has slowly waded back into the music world in recent years, first with a remix of an Awolnation song and then with a guest appearance on Cassius’ new LP. A DJ set at New York’s Panorama Festival and a gig hosting his own Beats 1 radio show, dubbed “The Echo Chamber,” soon followed.
“I feel very fortunate, because I either work with or cross paths with a lot of different musicians, and that’s how you find the coolest shit. Anyway, that’s my musician bias,” Mike D told Rolling Stone about how he discovered new music.
“Also, when I was a little kid and I got into punk rock and the Clash and the Slits; that’s how I found about reggae,” he added. “They were inspired by it and were very clear and open about that influence. Then it made me dig further, so it’s the same thing.”
