Clinton on Trump: ‘A Man Who Has Called Women ‘Pigs, Slobs and Dogs”
Hillary Clinton slammed Donald Trump and his harsh comments and treatment toward women throughout his career and presidential run during Monday night’s debate.
The exchange occurred when moderator Lester Holt questioned Trump on what exactly the Republican candidate meant when he said Clinton lacked the “presidential look.” “She doesn’t have the look, she doesn’t have stamina,” Trump said before Holt corrected Trump on the mogul’s own quote.
Clinton fired back, “As soon as [Trump] travels to 112 countries and negotiates a peace deal, a ceasefire, a release of dissidents, an opening of new opportunities in nations around the world or even spends 11 hours testifying in front of a congressional committee, he can talk to me about stamina,” which drew a rare round of applause from the audience.
Hillary continued, “He tried to switch from ‘looks’ to ‘stamina,’ but this is a man who has called women ‘pigs, slobs and dogs,'” Clinton said. “Someone who has said that pregnancy is an inconvenience to employers, someone who has said women don’t deserve equal pay as long as they do as good a job as men.”
Clinton also brought up Miss Universe winner Alicia Machado, a Venezuelan who has since become a U.S. citizen. “One of the worst things he said was about a woman in a beauty contest – he loves beauty contests, supporting them and hanging around them – and he called this woman ‘Miss Piggy,’ then he called her ‘Ms. Housekeeping,’ because she was Latino.”
Although Trump reacted to Clinton’s claims incredulously, the mogul’s own book The Art of the Comeback included a passage where he writes he saw Machado “sitting there plumply,” Mother Jones reported. “You can bet [Machado’s] going to vote this November,” Clinton said.
In response to the criticisms about how he speaks about women, Trump took aim at an old adversary and favored target, comedian Rosie O’Donnell. “Somebody who has been very vicious to me, Rosie O’Donnell, I said very tough things to her and I think everybody would agree that she deserves it, and nobody feels sorry for her,” Trump said.
The mogul then credited himself for not getting too mean with a woman he’s referred solely to as “Crooked Hillary” throughout his campaign. “I was going to say something extremely rough to Hillary, and her family, and I said to myself, ‘I can’t do it, I just can’t do it,'” Trump said. “‘It’s inappropriate, it’s just not nice.'”
