See Elton John, Christine and the Queens Perform Evocative ‘Tiny Dancer’
Elton John recruited Christine and the Queens to perform signature ballad “Tiny Dancer” during his Sunday night set at London’s Apple Music Festival. The emerging French singer-songwriter added harmony vocals during the performance, and a professionally filmed clip is available to stream via Apple Music. Christine and the Queens also joined John to perform her Top 20 UK hit “Tilted.”
“I’ve been playing Christine and the Queens since last September, and [they’ve] finally broken England,” John told Beats 1 prior to the festival. “I saw her at the Roundhouse in the Spring, and she was amazing … Once you see her live on stage, you’re mesmerized.”
A crop of other new artists performed pairs of songs with the rock icon: Gallant hit the stage for “Weight in Gold” and “Bennie and the Jets”; Rosie Lowe assisted with “Woman” and “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road”; and Parker Millsap contributed on “The Very Last Day” and “Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me.”
Elsewhere in his Beats 1 interview, John said Leonard Cohen was the funniest person he’s ever worked with. “We were doing a Ray Charles song called ‘Born To Lose,’ and I was sitting like I am with you, opposite him, or standing opposite him, and he sang the first line and he went, ‘booooorrrnnn to lose,’ and it was like a ship leaving a harbour,” he said. “I just burst out laughing, ‘God, that’s the lowest note I’ve ever heard,’ and it was just so wonderful.”
John released his 32nd studio album, Wonderful Crazy Night, in February.
