What’s Wrong With Odell Beckham Jr.? Eli Manning Thinks He Knows
It’s been a rough couple of weeks for Odell Beckham Jr. First, he made headlines for losing his temper in a heated matchup with his good pal Josh Norman in what turned out to be a close loss to the Washington Redskins in Week 3. Then in Week 4, he had the worst performance of his career in another chippy battle, this time with Xavier Rhodes and the Minnesota Vikings.
Beckham got an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty for taunting in that matchup with the Vikings, too, which he followed up after the game by saying “It’s always just my fault” and that “If I sneeze the wrong way it’ll be a flag.”
To no surprise, Beckham’s comments haven’t gone down well with his teammates. After his showing against the Redskins, New York Giants head coach Ben McAdoo said Beckham needs to control his emotions better and become less of a distraction to the team. And now Giants quarterback Eli Manning has some words for Beckham following his latest outburst.
“He’s got to play smart,” said Manning. “He can’t afford to do anything they’ll call. He’s kind of brought that upon himself, so he’s got to realize that…No doubt. Can’t afford the penalties.”
Beckham gave some insight into why he hasn’t been himself so far this season by saying he’s not having fun playing football anymore. He’s certainly not the only person to blame for the Giants getting off to a slow start, but they desperately need him to bounce back if they have any chance of digging themselves out of this hole.
