Hillary Clinton, Zach Galifianakis Trade Trump Jokes on ‘Between Two Ferns’
A segment of Between Two Ferns – the Zach Galifianakis-helmed show that attempts to push interviews to a rude, uncomfortable, humorous extreme – featuring Hillary Clinton appeared on Funny or Die on Thursday. Galifianakis, who plays an obtuse, ill-mannered host, posed demeaning questions along the lines of, “As Secretary, how many words per minute could you type?” “I really regret doing this,” Clinton sighed at one point.
Galifianakis took aim at both candidates during the interview. “When [Trump]’s elected president and Kid Rock becomes secretary of state, are you going to move to Canada?” he asked his guest. Later, he added, “I’d love to meet the person who makes your pantsuits, because for Halloween, I wanted to go as a librarian from outer space.”
He also alluded to Trump’s history of racist rhetoric and the plagiarism accusations that plagued Melania Trump at the Republican National Convention. When Clinton suggested that her opponent would wear a “red power tie” to their upcoming debate, Galifianakis responded, “Maybe a white power tie?” “When you went to Donald Trump’s wedding,” the host continued, “did he write his own vows? And did Michelle Obama write Melania’s?”
Galifianakis later cut Clinton off as she attempted to make a point about economic policy in order to air an advertisement for Trump. “Why would you play a commercial for my opponent in the middle of our interview?” Clinton asked. “He paid me in steaks,” Galifianakis reponded. “It’s a good cut of meat. I think it’s part of the asshole.”
President Obama appeared in an episode of Between Two Ferns that aired in 2014. Clinton’s first debate with Trump takes place on Monday.
