Watch Schoolboy Q, Miguel Team for Bouncy ‘Overtime’ Video
Schoolboy Q has dropped his new video for “Overtime,” co-starring Miguel and Justine Skye. The clip is the latest video off the rapper’s new album Blank Face LP.
After the emotionally charged video trilogy for “By Any Means,” “Tookie Knows II” and “Black Thoughts,” Schoolboy Q offers lighter fare on “Overtime.” In the video for the penultimate Blank Face LP track he’s surrounded by twerking women everywhere from office buildings to a bikini barbershop. Later, Miguel makes a a cameo on a picturesque mountaintop and later, Skye sings the outtro in a field of suspended balloons.
Schoolboy Q told Rolling Stone he didn’t think the song fit in the dark context of Blank Face. As a result, “Overtime” became a point of contention between the rapper and his label. He felt that the song’s formula was an attempt to pacify his label’s effort to repeat the success of his hit single “Studio.” “You always got that song you gotta give up for the label,” Q said at listening party for the album. “Sometimes the label knows what they’re talking about.”
“They let me do a whole album how I wanted top to bottom; they just asked for one song,” Q said. “It’s a dope song — I wrote the song, I just thought it didn’t fit my album. But like I said, I also didn’t want ‘Studio’ on my album. I also didn’t want ‘Man Of The Year’ to be one of my singles. Both of ’em went Platinum. I don’t know every fucking thing.”
