James Blake Taps Vince Staples for Silky ‘Timeless’ Remix
James Blake recruited Vince Staples for a remix of “Timeless,” a track from his latest LP, The Colour in Anything. “Motion leave me motor sick/ Couldn’t ride the love boat, jumped into my lone abyss,” the rapper flows in a see-sawing cadence. Later, over Blake’s pulsating synths he spits: “I tried to read between the lines/ Without my glasses, girl, I’m blind.”
Blake produced two tracks – “Big Time” and “Let It Shine” – from Staples’ recently released Prima Donna EP. That seven-track set also featured guest spots from A$AP Rocky and Kilo Kish, along with production by No I.D, who, in a statement, called Staples “a new voice for the new generation.”
Blake released The Colour in Anything, his third LP, in May with only a few hours’ warning. “When I first started, I was excited by the feeling of uplifting a room and shocking a room,” The singer-producer said to Rolling Stone. “Over time, being part of the music industry and adjusting to my new life as an avatar, I found it really difficult. And my music reflected that mood.”
“I hit a quarter-life very difficult point, and I got through it. I look back on it and I think that this album has shown me how strong I actually am. I think that feeling of uplift is bubbling and wants to come back.”
Blake will kick off a North American tour September 23rd in Dallas, Texas.
