Watch Miley Cyrus, Blake Shelton Duel for Country Artists on ‘The Voice’
Miley Cyrus is joining the singing competition The Voice this season as part of the quartet of coaches, and even though she’s most associated with being a pop star, the singer still takes pride in her country roots. In an exclusive new preview of the upcoming season, Cyrus lets veteran coach and country superstar Blake Shelton know that he’ll have a little competition in that area going forward.
“I’m ready to steal his good country,” Cyrus says from her red seat. The pair continue to lightly tease and threaten each other from their positions in front of the red buttons that they are meant to hit during the blind auditions when choosing their favorite voices.
“Don’t play that Dolly Parton–goddaughter bullshit on me,” Shelton says at one point, bringing up the singer’s familial ties to the genre’s legacy and history. Even longtime coach Adam Levine joins in on the fun, portraying Cyrus as the first coach to offer up some real country competition to Shelton.
Cyrus is also joined by new coach Alicia Keys this season, following in the footsteps of past coaches Christina Aguilera, Gwen Stefani, CeeLo Green and Pharrell Williams. The new season will premiere on September 19th on NBC. Bette Midler, Joan Jett, Sammy Hagar and Charlie Puth will join as mentors later in the season.
