Watch John Legend, Stevie Wonder Recreate OutKast’s ‘Hey Ya’ Video on ‘Lip Sync Battle’
John Legend transformed into John “Ice Cold” 3000 on Lip Sync Battle with some assistance from Stevie Wonder. He competed in the same episode against Michael Phelps, Olivia Munn and Terry Crews in a special “All-Stars” edition of the show.
Legend “performed” OutKast’s “Hey Ya” and recreated the memorable music video, which was inspired by the Beatles’ iconic appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show. Stephen Merchant kicked things off as the emcee in black-and-white before the camera panned to Legend donning the same wing that André 3000 wore in the original clip along with the all green outfit complete with white suspenders. Wonder “played” the keyboards next to him while muppets flanked the show’s co-host and Legend’s wife Chrissy Teigen in her booth.
In the same episode, Terry Crews modernized “Fight the Power” by featuring a crew of impersonators playing the Clintons, the Obamas and Trump. Michael Phelps rapped along to Eminem’s “Lose Yourself” while Olivia Munn had an athletic version of Sia’s “Cheap Thrills” with some assistance from Olympic gymnasts Simone Biles and Aly Raisman.
