Watch Empire of the Sun’s Futuristic ‘High and Low’ Video
In Empire of the Sun‘s vivid “High and Low” video, duo Luke Steele and Nick Littlemore sing about cosmic love while floating through the clouds wearing their signature regal costumes. The self-directed video is filled with surreal graphics and trippy touches: a massive, lip-shaped construction, floating rocks, crashing waves, wandering CGI giraffes and an eye built of grass.
“There was an image we talked about very early on with this record, before we wrote the title track, ‘Two Vines,’ and that was this image of a modern city overtaken by jungle, almost like mother nature taking back the planet,” Littlemore said about the inspiration behind the “High and Low” video. “All the buildings will turn back to sand. All it will be is nature again. We wanted to make something that reflected the beauty of that, and the wisdom that plants can give us about living harmoniously on this beautiful planet.”
“High and Low” previews the electronic band’s upcoming third LP, Two Vines, out October 28th. The album, which follows 2013’s Ice on the Dune, features guest spots from Fleetwood Mac guitarist Lindsey Buckingham and Prince and the Revolution’s Wendy Melvoin.
