Hear Flying Lotus’ Alias Captain Murphy’s Eerie ‘Crowned’
Flying Lotus, a.k.a Steven Ellison, has released new song “Crowned” under his rap alias Captain Murphy as part of the Adult Swim Singles series. The free download is one of only a few Captain Murphy songs that have been released since his 2012 debut and sole LP, Duality.
On the eerie “Crowned,” Ellison’s rap alter ego’s warped vocals warn, “This the kind of night that feel perfect for some mischief” as the trippy, nightmarish track unfolds.
Ellison’s alter ego made his mysterious debut via the Adult Swim Singles series with “Between Friends” in 2012 before revealing he was behind the song. Four of his Captain Murphy tracks have debuted previously via the Adult Swim program. Ellison’s 2014 Flying Lotus album, You’re Dead! also featured his Captain Murphy alias. Last year, Ellison’s project with Thundercat and Shabazz Palaces, WOKE, also debuted their track “The Lavishments of Light Cooking” during the series.
The 2016 Adult Swim Singles series runs through November and has featured songs from Against Me! (“Haunting, Haunted, Haunts“), Vince Staples, Earl Sweatshirt and others. Run the Jewels and Rae Sremmurd are among the artists remaining with songs planned for this year’s program.
“Crowned” is available via Adult Swim Singles Series’ website.
