Watch Stephen Colbert Go Undercover to Sell Hot Dogs at Chicago Cubs Game
Stephen Colbert does a really good Chicago accent. We know that now because the Late Show host went to Wrigley Field in Chicago dressed as “Donny Franks,” slinging delicious Vienna Beef wieners (we’re guessing without ketchup, since that’s basically the law in the Windy City) and making plenty of jokes that are easy to make when you’re dealing with encased meats. All that, and a cameo by beloved slugger Kyle Schwarber who went down two games into the season with a leg injury.
Colbert, who is originally from South Carolina, went to college a few miles up the road from Wrigley at Northwestern. And since his home state doesn’t have a baseball team of their own, Colbert claimed the Cubs as his own.
Since he’s such a fan and people are convinced this is the year for the Cubs, it isn’t the first time this he’s used the Northsiders in a segment this season. You might remember this past July team all-stars Kris Bryant, Anthony Rizzo and Jake Arrieta made a cameo on the show as well.
The Cubs recently clinched the National League Central title. The team’s first since 2008. In case you haven’t heard, the team hasn’t clinched a pennant since 1945 and are also trying to win their first World Series title since 1908.
