DeAndre Hopkins Will Keep Wearing Yeezy Cleats if Kanye West Pays Fine
Over the weekend, Houston Texans wide receiver and Adidas-sponsored athlete DeAndre Hopkins made a fashion statement by rocking Yeezy cleats during his team’s victory against the Chicago Bears. Joining him in the movement around the NFL was Adrian Peterson, Sammy Watkins and Von Miller – all of whom wore some variation of Yeezy’s in their season debuts – but it doesn’t look like any of them have suffered the same fate as Hopkins.
Not yet, anyway.
On Thursday, Hopkins told reporters that the NFL fined him $6,000 for wearing his Yeezy 350 cleats during the game because, according to the Associated Press, “NFL rules say that shoes must have one dominant base color, which the Yeezy’s do not.” That left many wondering if Hopkins would wear them again despite the fine – after all, his kicks got a lot of attention on social media and the broadcast – to which he responded by putting the onus on Kanye.

We’ll have to wait and see if Kanye is willing to bite the bullet for the sake of his widely popular sneaker line, but he might have a good reason to seeing as his Yeezy cleats sold out online in less than 24 hours. They’re not exactly cheap, either, with a price tag of $250 a pop. If Hopkins continues to make history on the field like he has over the last three seasons, it might be in Yeezy’s best interest to pay his shoe fines.
