Will Ferrell, John C. Reilly Reunite for ‘Holmes and Watson’
Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly will fittingly play one of the most beloved duos of all time, Sherlock Holmes and John Watson, in the upcoming movie, Holmes and Watson, Deadline reports.
Ferrell will star as Arthur Conan Doyle’s famous detective, while Reilly will play his trusted sidekick. Etan Cohen will direct and wrote the script for Holmes and Watson, which puts a comedic spin on a story inspired by a classic Sherlock Holmes tale. Cohen has penned several beloved comedies, including Tropic Thunder and Idiocracy, and he made his directorial debut last year with Get Hard, which starred Ferrell and Kevin Hart (Cohen also wrote the script).
Ferrell has long been attached to Holmes and Watson, though he was originally slated to star alongside Sacha Baron Cohen. That project, however, stalled, but the film was recently revived at Sony and is now set to begin production this winter.
Ferrell and Reilly have worked on several projects together over the years, but Holmes and Watson marks just their third movie as co-stars, following 2006’s Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby and 2008’s Step Brothers. Separately, the actors remain busy as ever: Ferrell is set to appear in James Franco’s new movie, Zeroville, and will star alongside Amy Poehler in The House next year. Reilly, meanwhile, lent his voice to the upcoming animated movie, Sing, and has several movies slated for 2017, including a Laurel and Hardy biopic with Steve Coogan.
