Watch ‘Avenue Q’ Sing Ledinsky’s ‘Donald Trump Makes Me Want to Smoke Crack’
Swedish songwriter Ledinsky has been living in the United States for a decade, calling the country his “adoptive parent,” but the recent political campaign of Donald Trump inspired him to write an entirely different sort of song. Officially titled “DonaldTrumpMakesMeWannaSmokeCrack,” which he recorded this past June and released on his debut EP, High Society, the song is his version of a protest anthem.
“I was just gonna send it to some friends,” Ledinsky explains, “But Nadya from Pussy Riot told me I should put it out, so it’s her fault really.”
For the video for the song, Ledinsky teamed up with the raunchy and hilarious puppets of Avenue Q. He’s seen on the musical’s set, which currently plays Off-Broadway in New York City, singing with the cast, who are decked out in T-shirts with the eponymous lyrics as they sing the refrain, “Money on my mind” and exhort others to put their “middle finger in the air.” It turns out that the show’s cast and Ledinsky had a common anti-Trump message to share since Avenue Q closes each production with the song “Only For Now,” and currently they’ve amended the the lyrics each night to be: “Donald Trump is only for now.”
