Hear Young Thug’s Booming ‘Elton,’ Featuring Wyclef Jean
Young Thug recruits Wyclef Jean for “Elton,” a dynamic, piano-laced cut from the rapper’s upcoming Jeffery mixtape. The track, produced by Wheezy & Cassius Jay, finds the rapper in patented auto-tune mode, moaning sex lyrics over booming sub-bass and jazzy keys. In his memorable guest spot, former Fugee Jean demonstrates his vocal range, moving from a soulful croon to a menacing low voice.
According to Noisey, the track is featured on Thug’s upcoming Jeffery mixtape. The rapper – born Jeffery Williams – recently announced plans to change his stage name to No, My Name Is Jeffery, if only temporarily. “I’m Jeffery for one fucking week. If I don’t sell 100,000 copies,” he told Travi$ Scott on his Beats 1 radio show.
It remains unclear if “Elton” is connected to the rapper’s recent hangout with Sir Elton John. In March, the unlikely duo met at John’s Atlanta home – and a series of mind-boggling Instagram photos show the rock legend holding a Young Thug sweatshirt and wearing a “Thugger” hat. Thug’s manager Amina Diop told The Fader that Thug visited the singer to preview a song called “Rocket Man” – the title of which appears in “Elton.”
Young Thug has released two mixtape this year: February’s I’m Up and March’s Slime Season 3. He has yet to announce a release date for either Jeffery or his long-awaited debut LP, Hy!£UN35.
Last month, Thug released a celebratory clip for Slime Season 3’s “Memo,” full of dancing and piano playing.
