See Joey Bada$$ Throw Pep Rally in ‘Devastated’ Video
Joey Bada$$ dropped the new video for his triumphant “Devastated,” three months after the Brooklyn rapper released the track as a single.
In the video, directed by Bada$$ and Shomi Patwary, the rapper wakes up alone on a high school football field at night, where he delivers the track’s downbeat verses. However, on the rapturous chorus, Bada$$ is suddenly surrounded by bleachers filled with friends that treat the track like a pep rally. The rapper subsequently wanders the streets alone until a party breaks out during the chorus.
Bada$$ premiered the video during an event Tuesday that travelled throughout New York City – Prospect Park, Barclays Center, Madison Square Park and more – where the rapper and the Pro Era crew screened “Devastated” and offered up exclusive merchandise.
“During the making of this song, I wanted to give people something different from the rest of my catalog, and something more uptempo,” Bada$$ told Rolling Stone in July. “My main objective was to give people a feel-good, uplifting song, ’cause a lot of music in my catalog is really introspective or meditative, critical-thinking type of vibes, or really aggressive type of vibes. So I wanted to switch it up and give my fans something new, like something they can listen to and feel good about. Something that you could play for the whole world – you know, kids, grandmoms, everyone. Something that everyone could relate to.”
