Drake Honors Shania Twain at Nashville Concert
When Drake hosted the 2011 Juno Awards, he focused his attention on Shania Twain during the opening monologue, ad-libbing his way through a short song with help from pianist Chilly Gonzales. “Damn, I’m dying to make you feel like a woman, baby,” he declared at the tune’s end, while those in the audience – including Twain – erupted in laughter. Five years later, Twain showed up to Drake’s Nashville performance on August 14th, catching him during the middle of his Summer Sixteen Tour. Although she didn’t join her fellow Canadian for a song, she did receive another shout-out onstage, with Drake dedicating the rest of his set to the country chart-topper.
“I grew up a fan,” he told the audience at the Bridgestone Arena, where Twain played her own sold-out show in July 2015. “I just want to say that, like, Shania Twain came to my show tonight, you know what I’m saying, Nashville? So this next set, right here, I’m doing this for Shania! This is my love set for Shania, right here.”
Backstage after the show, the two posed for an Instagram picture. “My WCW, even though it’s Monday,” Drake wrote, referring to Twain as his “Woman Crush Wednesday.”
