Britney Spears Donates VMA Costume For Louisiana Flood Relief
Britney Spears is offering the chance to meet her at the MTV Video Music Awards or win the outfit she’ll wear during her performance as part of an effort to raise money for flood victims in the pop star’s home state of Louisiana.
Spears teamed with the American Red Cross and Crowdrise for the fundraiser and contest, with every $10 donation doubling as an entry to win. One winner will receive a round-trip for two to New York City to attend the VMAs Saturday August 28th and meet Spears at the show. The other will take home Spears’ outfit, as well as an autographed album. The winner of the first prize will be drawn before midnight on August 25th, while the latter will be pulled before noon on September 1st.
The money raised will help the Red Cross provide food, water, shelter and comfort items for the thousands displaced by the torrential rain and historic floods that have ravaged the state. The New York Times reports that the flooding has resulted in 17 deaths. Approximately 30,000 people have been rescued and at least 40,000 homes have been destroyed.
In the wake of the destruction, Taylor Swift donated $1 million to relief efforts in Louisiana. “The fact that so many people in Louisiana have been forced out of their own homes this week is heartbreaking,” said Swift. “I encourage those who can to help out and send your love and prayers their way during this devastating time.”
